Guests of the 33rd Annual Gilroy High School Athletic Association Crab Cioppino Feed, Dance and Auction brought their appetites to Christopher Ranch on May 11, 2013. Besides the delicious dinner, a silent auction and raffle of sports memorabilia and other items rounded out the evening. All proceeds benefit the athletics program at Gilroy High School. This popular event attracts people from throughout the Bay Area – approximately 1,000 attended.

SIXTH ANNUAL QUILT SHOW
Sponsored by Gilroy Branch of the American Association of University Women( AAUW)
Held the Saturday before Mother’ s Day in the lovely gardens of Sam and Judy Bozzo, the main purpose of the quilt show is to raise funds to support scholarships. An Opportunity Quilt which is made each year by a different AAUW member is raffled off with the proceeds going to support Tech Trek— three seventh grade girls to take part in a week long science camp at Stanford University. The quilts in the Quilt Show vary in design and color but all reflect a sense of pride, express the quilter’ s feelings and creativity and all this is tied to the social benefits of quilters working together.
DEMONSTRATION GARDEN
The Gilroy Demonstration Garden hosted a family Earth Day event on April 20, 2013. Attendees celebrated Mother Earth at this free event with music, children’ s activities, and demonstrations, including:“ How to prepare for spring planting,”“ Herbs and Aromatherapy,”“ How to grow a Worm,” and“ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” workshops. The Demonstration Garden’ s motto is“ Growing Our Community One Seed At A Time.” The three-quarter acre“ edible classroom,” located at 7360 Eigleberry Street, grew out of a partnership between the Gilroy Arts Alliance and the Leadership Gilroy Class of 2010 in early 2010. The Garden will host an Herbs and Aroma Workshop on June 23rd from 9 a. m. to 4:00 p. m. Participants will make teas, tinctures, and other products from the garden’ s herbs.
