A snap chat between a mentor and his protégé
as they stood on one of the tallest buildings in
Accra.
Mentor: Charlie, tell me looking beyond from
here what do you see?
Mentee: Please sir, what do you mean?
The Mentor laughs out loud.
Mentor: From where we stand and as far as your
eyes can take you, tell me what do you see?
Mentee: OK sir, I see beautiful buildings and people moving to and fro, some in cars and some
walking.
Mentor: OK, let me tell you what I see, I see the
rising of a new dawn, the rising of a people who
are ready to take on challenges, change and become great people even in their own land, I see
the rising of the new Africa. A continent with no
barriers to trade and movement. Wow!! When I
picked up this dialogue it took me some time
to really understand what the mentor could see
and what he was talking about. Like the Mentee I would have supposed a similar submission, until the light dawn, the Mentor could see
beyond the blistering images his literal eyes
could pick. He has vision. Vision is the source
and hope of life. One of the greatest gifts ever
to be given mankind is not the gift of sight, but
the gift of vision. Our sight is a function of the
eyes; vision is a function of the heart. Eyes that
look are common, but eyes that see are rare. I remember a quote which says ‘‘If you can see, you
can seize’’. Because no invention, achievement,
advancement, development, or great feat was
ever accomplish without the inspiring power of
vision. It is vision that makes the unseen visible
...
and the unknown possible. If you are only
living with your eyes open you may be disappointed, because your vision should travel
beyond you. Vision
