King of New York (1990) Director: Abel Ferrara Writer: Nicholas St. John Stars: Christopher Walken, David Caruso, Laurence Fishburne A former drug lord returns from prison determined to wipe out all his competition and distribute the profits of his operations to New York's poor and lower classes in this stylish and ultra violent modern twist on Robin Hood. Like good wine... 1990 was a good year for movies. King of New York is definitely a different type of crime thriller. I mean, you actually cannot help but think of Frank White as a good guy? A really ruthless and brutal good guy. King of New York seems to have been the breakout movie for actors like Laurnece Fishburne and David Caruso... Well, maybe breakout is a bad word to use since Laurence was actually in Apocalypse Now! I think King of New York made them memorable as actors. Honestly? King of New York was ten times better than other movies based on the drug trade. Movies like New Jack City and Scarface can not hold a candle to this work of art! If you have not seen this movie? Now is the time!
