A WEEK IN GHANA
World Vision has sent me to Ghana to evaluate the country's level of development and to aid a village in Ghana. It was a very challenging, fun, and also an emotional adventure!
Ghana’s HDI in 2012 is placed in the medium human category. Between 1980 and 2012, Ghana’s HDI raised from 39.1-55.8% (increase of approximately 40%) At 2012 the life span of Ghanaians is an average of 65 years (64.6 to be exact) and 11 years of schooling, and the Gross National Income is $1,684. Ghana’s HDI during 2012 is 55.8%, which is below the average of 0.64 for countries in the medium human development category, but is above average for 47.5% countries in Sub Saharan countries.
There are reasons on why Ghana's level of development is in such a low ranking. The very important one is that Ghana has had a history of borrowing, which makes it difficult for the country to develop financially. The countries have less money than the other countries. During 2004, Ghana received a debt relief, and the countries in the world agreed to cancel half of their debt. Ghana owes 2.6 billion dollars, and can not afford to pay, as they need more help to financially develop.
