PAGE 4 GGEW NEWS WINTER 2011 PAGE 5 County Commissioner, Jan Knight thoroughly enjoyed County Day this year. Special thanks to Sylvia and her team of helpers for organising the day. We can't please all the members all the time but I know for sure that Sylvia gives her all to make this event a success and to run as smoothly as possible. As always it is as much about meeting guiding friends from across the County as it is enjoying the sessions and hearing all about what has been going on in County in the last twelve months. To be able to give thanks and recognition to our members is always what I enjoy most. As I said in my speech, "I give my full appreciation and thanks to all the volunteers in County for delivering good guiding. Without your dedication none of the exciting fun and adventures would be possible. Special thanks go to our Commissioners at all levels in Essex West for their support and also to our County President, Avril Brampton, Vice Presidents and Trefoil Guild for their valuable contribution. I It has been a pleasure for me to represent the County and I hope that next year will be equally as good if not better!" A number of Awards were made including:Geri Cowell - County Thanks Badge for organising a young Leaders trip to Iceland (NW) Sarah Cassidy - County Thanks Badge for organising a young Leaders trip to Iceland (ROM) David Henderson - 10 years Long Service Award (THW) David Jeffery - 20 years Long Service Certificate Joan Beach - 20 years Long Service Award (ROM) Susan Wiseman - 20 Years Long Service Award (EFS) Sophie French - Queen's Guide Award (UPM) Sandra Cox - County Brooch (HNCH) Linda Harris - Anglia Brooch (UPM) Margaret Henderson - Anglia Brooch (THW) David Henderson - Anglia Brooch (THW) would like to thank everyone who bought raffle tickets on County Day. Thanks to Ann and Jean for their wonderful selling too, as we raised £187.00 for Went House. In answer to a number of points that were raised on the day, I would like to advise that the preparation beforehand and the jobs carried out on County Day itself are all done by volunteers. Everything that we use for our trainings, refreshments, and administration etc. has to be transported to the school and this includes the water heaters. It was our intention to add some blank sheets of paper to the folders provided but I’m afraid we ran out of time. Whilst I’m sure that we would all like a 3 course lunch, Gillian does a fantastic job producing the meals for everyone with very limited help and in a short space of time. The lunch is provided in response to the feedback received previously - being more preferable to us all having to make a packed lunch before leaving home. Hot drinks on tap would also be wonderful, but this is not feasible. On the assumption that there will be a County Day in 2012, if you have any hidden talents that could help us with the smooth running of the event, then PLEASE do get in touch and volunteer.
