Apologies to Epping Forest North because we got their names wrong in
the last newsletter, so they get to have their picture in the GGEW news

ability and is treated as any other Brownie. She has even carried the flag

Needless to say she absolutely loves Brownies!
T
et ready with those drawing pads and pencils. We want you to
design a suitably stunning Essex West Centenary Badge and had
intended to launch a competition in this issue of the newsletter but
time has beaten us and we will have to launch the competition next time. Of
course, that doesn’t mean that those artists out there - and we know there
are lots of talented people in Essex West - can’t make a start now so your
entries can be ready for the launch in the Spring of 2009. The badge will be
chosen in time for everyone to have one to wear by January 2010

ELSENHAM RANGERS AT HAUTBOIS
n the 10th October four of us 1st
Elsenham
Eagles
went to Hautbois
House, Norwich for
a weekend.
We took part in
one of the first
“changing the
world” guiding
weekends which
was in partnership
with the Woodland
Trust’s “tree for all”
project.
During this weekend we were
involved in a range
of activities including kite making,
survival skills, Bodger camps
(making green woodcrafts),
weaving live willow sculptures
and most memoarbly, planting
about 40 trees
between us
and 200
trees overall
as part of a “tomorrow’s
forest” project.
We thoroughly enjoyed
ourselves and feel privilaged to have taken part in
such a
big, exciting project.
We
would like
to thank
the
Woodland
Trust for
organising this event and all
the Guiding Leaders who had
to deal with us fruit loops.

C
rystal Bear traveled to Birmingham with
the Stifford rangers by car, she enjoyed
singing along to all the artists who
would be playing at Big Gig during the car
journey. On arrival at the Travel Lodge she
was exited and could not wait to get ready to
go and party with the rangers
When she got the N.E.C she was eager to
buy blue bunny ears but was very disappointed
that they did not make them small enough for
her!!! She could not wait to get to her seat and
wait for the first act who were the Sugarbabes,
followed by Leon Jackson, Sam Beeton, Dj
Ironik, Alphabeat, Avenue, The Saturday’s, The
Script, The Hoosiers. The final act was Scouting for Girls,
which was meet with screams and feet stamping from the
crowd, and from Crystal herself. Crystal was sad when they
finished, but clapped, cheered and screamed to show her
appreciation.
As sad as she was that Big Gig had come to an end, she
was looking forward to going back to the Travel Lodge to
finish off the party with a McDonalds, a nice cup of hot
chocolate and a good nights sleep ready to hit the road to
come home to Thurrock the following morning.
