New Leaders
Day another
great success
GGEW NEWS
SUMMER 2013
n 18th May we held a New Leaders Day at a
new venue in Harold Wood this year and it
was another very successful day.
In addition to the usual Programme training we
also covered a First Response renewal.
Four Leaders, with the help of mentors who
came and helped, finished their Leadership books
and many others were able to get various
sections signed off.
Leaders were able to take a look at Go
and Join Us and learn a bit about Safe
Space. They also made bugs and dabbled in a craft and made a basket from card.
It is hoped to make this a regular event. I know from the feedback everyone enjoyed the day and it
was great to see such enthusiasm from all
those that came
One comment from an ‘old hand’ on the
day.” Isn’t lovely to see all these lovely
young people who will be our future “
I have to say it was lovely to see.

Link Day for
Brownies and
Guides
B
rownies and Guides
from the Tilbury and
Chadwell areas came together at
the Condovers Campsite in West
Tilbury in June. The event was
held so Guides could introduce
older Brownies into what happens
at Guides to encourage them to
move up when their time at
Brownies is over.
The day was hailed a great
success with most of the Brownies
now looking forward to moving up
and the Leaders are planning a
similar day in the future
ilbury District went to Pax lodge on the 16th June
for an International Day. The Rotary Club gave us a
donation of £350 which paid for the coach and went
towards the ticket price.
The girls had a wonderful time doing team building
challenges, meeting Leaders from Malaysia, Armenia,
Nigeria, Australia and of course Southend! We did activities
or crafts with each Leader.
They did a scavenge hunt and had the chance to
freely explore Pax Lodge. We had a picnic lunch in the
garden and before we left we took part in a pinning
ceremony and Heather Ginsburg was presented with her 10
year service award.

Brownies visit the
Council Chamber and
meet the Mayor
st Hornchurch Brownies visited the Mayor of Havering Eric Munday
and his consort - we were taken into the Council chambers where
everybody got to see the mace and the Mayor’s robes (one of our
Assistant Leaders was picked to be dressed up) and asked questions of
the Mayor using the Council’s Microphone system - we then went to the
Mayor’s Parlour where he served us drink and cake and everybody got to
try on the Deputy
Mayor’s costume
and the Mace
Carrier’s robe.
We had a great
time. The Brownies
all were presented
with a great
Certificate and
teddy Mayor pin
badges.

rownies from
the 1st Little Thurrock Pack travelled to
London in June to visit the fantastic butterfly
exhibition at the Natural History Museum where they
were thrilled by beautiful butt erflies landing on them.
Afterwards the adventure continued as they
marvelled at the dinosaurs in the exhibition hall.
The Brownies also enjoyed a visit by some farm
