SUMMER 2012
GGEW NEWS
The Region Members Day
really took off when almost 500 members
from Anglia gathered at the Imperial War
Museum at Duxford in May.
Following an insprational speech from
Chief Guide Gill Slocombe there was a
host of activities to choose from including
Tai Chi, Messy Meditation, archery, problem solving and even a ride in a very
muddy tank, it was so easy to spot the
people who chose that activity!
In addition to the chosen sessions, there was plenty of time to take in some of the
historic aircraft at Duxford, including the first test-bed Concorde which can actally
be boarded. It was also possible to take a flight in a vintage aircraft from the 1930s.
The event, the first of its kind, was deemed
a great success and will, no doubt, be
repeated in the future. Keep your eyes
open for flyers so you don’t miss out on the
fun next time.

n May the First Rodings
Brownies held their 50th
birthday party and Olive
Daynes - who was the very
first Brown Owl planted the
Guiding Rose with two of our
current Brownies beside the
flagpole at the village hall
where we have our meetings.
We invited all people who
had any connection with us
over the last 50 years and lots
of old Brownies and Leaders
arrived on the night. We had a
BBQ, had old photos and uniform on display, dabbled with crafts -old and new.
We ended the evening with campfire songs which Brownies of all ages enjoyed very much
according to the feedback received after the
event.

Brentwood Baden Powell Awards
he Guides held a very
special evening on 7th
February when Abbie
Barker, Jessica Morse and
Jennifer Templer were presented
with their Baden Powell Award by
Sarah Pattison, Brentwood
Division Commissioner in front of
their Parents and other invited
guests.
The Baden Powell Award is the
top award in the Guide Section.
To gain the award girls have to
undertake 10 challenges which
cover many aspects of the programme.
The girls have organised a
Teddy Bear’s Picnic for the local
Rainbow group; found out about
Fair Trade and shared this with
the unit; carried out Community
Service; learnt how to provide
First Aid; taken part in an Anglia
Region Challenge and much
more!
All three girls have worked really hard to gain this award and
they are a credit to their Parents
and
1st Warley Guides.
