PAGE 6 GGEW NEWS SPRING 2016 To misquote JFK,“Ask not what your County can do for you but what you can do for your County” You will see from the message from Chris Skinner earlier in this newsletter, there are some posts which are currently vacant on the County team. There are places on some of the Groups which could do with your expertise and if you don’t want to commit long-term, there are Task and Finish Groups you may well be able to contribute to. The whole idea of all of these Groups is to ensure our girls have the best experience possible through Girlguiding and you may be just the person to make things come together. Jenny Wolff Arts Team member and Vice-President Joyc e Stock has been out of action for a while but is at last on the mend. Joyce would like to say ‘Thank You’ for all the get well cards and good wishes she has received from everyone in the County and hopes to be back in full swing soon. It was a family celebration at 2nd Hutton Guides when Leader Claire On Sunday 28th February, the girls from Bennett was presented with her 30 years service award and her twin 7th Grays Brownies tried their hand at horse daughters Charlotte (standing) and Georgia ( kneeling) were presented with riding. For many it was the first time they their 5 years awards. The awards were presented by District Commissioner had ridden, and for a few it was a bit Hilary Prollins at the unit’s end of term Mince Pies and Christmas Jumpers daunting. However everyone rode, with evening held in the Bennett’s house. most girls saying that trotting was very bouncy, and there were big smiles at the end of the afternoon, which was made possible by Louise and her staff and stable girls and boys at Foxhounds Riding School, in Orsett. One Brownie even got to ride a pony that shared the same name as herself. Sorry if we haven’t managed to include everything in this issue of the newsletter. We do try hard but there is only so much space available. Please continue to let us know of your events ive months into my role already! Can you believe that? Thank you to everybody that has supported me so far and for all your kind comments and best wishes as I move on with this role. Moving Forward: Over the last few months there have been a few changes and there will be more to come. These changes are things that you, as a County, have requested and will only be made with the support and backing of the remainder of the County Team. Working Groups: In her five years as County Commissioner, Jan Knight had the vision to divide the County into four working groups: Programme & Adventure, Marketing & Communications, Business & Finance, Membership Support This ‘working’ arrangement will continue. F PAGE 3 I am pleased to announce that we now have at least two Division Commissioners serving on each of these sub-Groups, but we need at least two more Leaders to join these Groups – if this is something you would like to be involved with, please contact the County Office and they will pass your details on to me. I would be more than happy to discuss the requirements with you before you decide whether you wish to commit. Programme & Adventure, as the name suggests, is the Group that arranges/co-ordinates all of the County activities/adventures/camps etc. For each of these activities we have a Task & Finish Group – i.e. a group of people committed to helping only with that event. We really need the support of all Leaders. Feel free to join us and serve on a T & F Group for an activity (meaning that you are only committing yourself for that particular activity – i.e. short term) – please give it some serious thought. We have as much fun planning/organising/running events as the girls do in attending. Contact the County Office and they will let you know who to speak to. Subscriptions: Thank you to all of you that have paid your Subscription 2016 on time. Training: The County Training Team run many brilliant and varied trainings throughout the year – these are run for all Leaders within the County. Please get our bookings in as there is much to learn and pass on. These are being e-mailed out in addition to the e-bulletin so that you can see what is on offer. The biggest of these being:County Members’ Day The morning sessions (as in previous years) will be for Training, however, the afternoon Session this year will be solely based around Division Teams and Teamwork– so please make sure you get your booking in and come along to support your Division. The more members attending, the more chance the Division is to win the ‘Trophy’. Please speak to your Division Commissioner. There will be a lot more Division ‘Team’ type competitions as my term progresses. I look forward to seeing you all at many of our events in the future. Chris Skinner Christmas shoppers at Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock were entertained by Brownies and Guides as they collected their Yuletide presents. The girls and their Leaders sang carols and Christmas songs for more than two hours alongside the centre’s massive Christmas tree Website: www.girlguidingessexwest.org.uk
