ESSEX WEST TREFOIL GUILD ANNUAL REVIEW
All our girls love residential events but Caitlin
Taylor of 5th Gidea Park Guides has proof of hers,
she has just gained her 50 Nights Away Anglia
n Saturday 5th March 55 members of Essex West Guilds gathered
together at the Ugley Village Hall for their Annual Review. They were
joined by special guests, Heather Asker, Mayor of Saffron Walden and
her mother; Chris Skinner, our new County Commissioner; new County
President Margaret Henderson with her husband David; Jean Pinner L.O.B
and our office staff Sylvia and Norma.
Members heard a report about the variety of activities and visits undertaken by the Guilds during the past year and also the numerous challenges
members set themselves in order to gain the new Voyager Award.
This involved learning new skills, serving in the community and organising
events such as Handicraft Exhibitions
and Craft Days in their Guide Divisions.
Chris presented Bronze Awards to
Gina Grieg and Wendy Henshaw
bringing the total who have completed
to nine so far, with nine more still
working hard. We enjoyed reading the
logbooks of the projects completed by
the participants.
Division Commissioners, we know
how busy you are so please ask your
local Guild members to help organise
an event, they are here to support you
and your girls.
We then enjoyed the story of a
wartime evacuee who was sent from
London to Suffolk, told by a fantastic
storyteller Bryan Thurlow, in picture right,.
Bryan had everyone enthralled by the tale which brought back memories of
childhood to many of the me mbers.
The afternoon was completed by tea and cakes provided by our hosts Saffron
Walden Guild.
Barbara Jordan
O
badge. Her nights away started when she was a
Rainbow and have continued through Brownies to
Guides. They include a week at Our Chalet; visits to
Hautbois and Foxlease; numerous pack holidays both
as a participant and as a helper; camps; Kip On A
Ship (on HMS Belfast) and the County Centenary trip
to Disneyland Paris.
Caitlin was presented with her badge by Yvonne
Scott, warden of Chigwell Row Campsite. Yvonne
remarked that it was the first 50 Nights Away badge
that she’d seen and whilst Caitlin had spent many of
her nights at Chigwell Row, it was good that they
included such a variety of other places.
Don’t miss out on this
great day out for all
sections.
The event is going to
have a distinctly
traditional feel to it with
the emphasis on having
lots of fun.
Places are limited and
there is a closing date of
9th June and it will not
be possible to book after
this date so get your
numbers into the office
as soon as you can.
Feel free to photocopy
the form on the left and
send your ticket numbers
in as soon as you can.
There are more details
available on the website
where you can keep up
to date with all the
exciting plans for future
County events
On 26th November, County Commissioner
Chris Skinner went to Hornchurch to
present Laura Giles with her Peer Educator
badge.
The letter accompanying this from Region
states:
“This is to recognise her role as a Peer
Educator and to acknowledge that she has
delivered at least three sessions since her
basic training.
The badge is to be worn by Laura on her
badge tab to help spread the word about
Essex West”
Harlow Commonside celebrated thinking day together and had fun with our
collage bus, we also made a circle of hands full of friendship comments
around our penny collection. Lots of fun was had by the girls and leaders.

for Harlow Commonside District
