Girlguides gain their First Aid Badge
he 1st Cranham Girlguides completed
their nine week First Aid badge in
December 2010.
It was hard going for the 30 girls in the
unit. The course was run by a member of St
John Ambulance Divisional Superintendent
Steven Gibson of 458 Rainham and South
Hornchurch Division and Officer Paul Levine
from the Essex Ambulance service.
The course was very intense and
covered many topics such as: Asthma,
bites, stings, resusitation, bleeding, Primary
survey and many more subjects.
The girls were faced with an exam at the
end of the course, D/S Steven Gibson
arranged for independent assessors to
come in and examine the girls.
T
The feed back that was received from
the assessors was that the girls passed with
high standards.
The girls were presented their badge by
Chris Beales borough officer for St John
Ambulance and Office Paul Levine the parents were proud to watch their daughters
demonstrate some of the topics they had
learnt during the course.
Parents commented that children should
be taught these skills in school, first aid is a
good subject to know.
I would like to say a big thank you to D/S
Steven Gibson for giving up his Wednesday
evening to come to the unit to help the girls
gain their badge.

Do you have a spare County Centenary Badge?
ur Centenary is now over and our County Champions Linda
and Margaret are putting together a Centenary
Scrapbook which will go into our County Archives for
future generations to enjoy,
The scrapbook contains pictures of all our events plus
samples of all the badges produced by the various sections for their events plus, of course, our very own
Crystal Bear.
One item missing is a County Centenary Badge and if
anyone our there has a spare we would be delighted if
you would donate it to the Scrapbook Project.
Please contact the office if you think you are able to help
complete this memorable record of our year of super celebration.

Hi I am Mary Gill, new County
Rainbow Adviser. I have been
a Rainbow Guider in Theydon
Bois for about twenty years and I
love the energy and enthusiasm
of this age group. Rainbows will
be celebrating their 25th birthday
in 2012 so I am hoping we can
arrange a County event to follow
on from the success of the
Princess Party. The girls who
came were amazed that there
were so many other Rainbows
and I think it is great for them to
realise that they are part of a
much bigger organisation. I would
love to hear news of Rainbow
Units going on Overnights, or new
Units opening.
Brownies, Brownies, are unique

Saplings and Chips for Saffron Walden Brownies
rd Saffron Walden Brownies got twenty trees free from Sainsbury's
when collecting their vouchers. We the n planted them in national
planting week and we planted them in Saffron Walden.
With great partnership working in mind we planted the trees on Claypits
Plantation site with the local BMX riders group that use it being very helpful
and digging the ground for us. It was minus two degrees and my brownies
were out there planting! The group didn’t end up planting any trees as my
brownies were so eager to do it themselves!
The Brownies also held a chip eating evening which was linked to Aim
High. While talking about healthy eating we discussed what was in chips,
how healthy they were and what made the best chip.
For this, in the weeks before they made score cards for each chip shop
with a selection of questions they decided themselves. At the end we had a
certificate for the best chip shop. I have never seen girls eat chips so quickly but by the time they got to the last shop they were definitely getting slower!
We did have very interesting discussions about chip eating and also how they
thought it would be great fun to eat chips all the time but the reality was that it
would be boring!
