Forging the Path Ahead
How the gaming industry is preparing to maintain positive momentum in 2025

As we begin the new year , it ’ s important to take a moment to celebrate the gaming industry ’ s remarkable achievements in 2024 , while looking towards even greater growth and success in 2025 . In 2024 , we saw great progress as we expanded our positive economic impact across the U . S . New markets welcomed legal gaming , and we deepened our commitment to responsible gaming initiatives , reaching more consumers than ever with critical resources and information .
EXPANDING RESPONSIBLE GAMING CAMPAIGNS This past year , the gaming industry united to amplify responsible gaming education efforts .
During September ’ s Responsible Gaming Education Month ( RGEM ), we saw the industry work together in new and innovative ways to promote RG literacy and advance RG research .
Through fan engagement , digital outreach and key media placements , we reached more consumers than ever before . We found new opportunities to engage media during RGEM , hosting a responsible gaming media event as well as a satellite media tour . It ’ s clear there is a strong media appetite for the work the gaming industry does to help consumers learn about and engage in responsible gaming .
COMBATING THE ILLEGAL MARKET Illegal gambling continues to harm consumers , robbing state and local governments of more than $ 13 billion annually in unpaid tax revenue . These unregulated operators offer no consumer protections , consistency in odds , or responsible gaming safeguards . The legal gaming industry remains steadfast in supporting state efforts to legalize regulated gaming and crack down on illegal operators .
In 2024 , we saw states take important enforcement actions against illegal operators . Bovada , an illegal , unregulated offshore gaming site , is now banned in 17 U . S . jurisdictions . This progress underscores the importance of vigilant regulatory efforts to protect consumers and uphold the integrity of our industry .
SHINING A LIGHT ON GAMING ’ S POSITIVE IMPACT This year , new research from the AGA revealed that commercial gaming operations generated $ 14.67 billion in direct gaming tax revenue paid to state and local governments .
These funds support critical resources like education , law enforcement , and problem gaming services , reinforcing our industry ’ s role as a vital partner in the communities in which we operate . With more than 1.8 million Americans employed by the gaming industry , our economic impact stretches far beyond tax revenue , providing access to well-paying jobs and injecting a steady source of revenue into local communities .
The AGA is proud to continue to advocate for all the great work the gaming industry does each year . In 2025 , we look forward to expanding our reach even further , working collaboratively to address key challenges and seize opportunities that will continue to advance our industry .
