CLINICAL TIPS FOR SOCIAL WORKERS

DATE AND TIME/LENGTH OF SESSION:

Do you record the date and time, as well as length of session? Its important to do so if you have not already! Court subpeona's are becoming the norm these days, and missing information can often make you look unprepared, unprofessional and incompetent. They also reflect on the profession overall as well!!

BRIEF STOP on the....

Clinical Expressway!

With so many developments within the field of social work, I often wonder where we are going, and do we as a profession, have the knowledge and skill set to get there? Take for example, clinical private practice, something which most social workers do, is something for most of us, a invitation to a climate of business problems and challenges. Notwithstanding the College’s limits on our ability to advertise, using client feedback as our “bread and butter” but our restricted presence within the world of “third party” benefits providers and insurers keep us boxed in. The gate is watched by surmounting conditions and impositions which further complicate our autonomy as a profession. How many of us require “supervision” by another registered or licensed professional in clinical psychology? Our money, should we accept the business, of immediately obligated to someone else, in another department or faculty of the Universe-ity of Life. Do we accept the loss in income for the grateful assumption we have more sessions to cover the cost of the contract stipulation? Our eager motivation to obtain and stabilize our income always cuts off at the knees. We inadvertently tell our clients we cannot sustain or guide and direct ourselves in the quest of self-discovery and healing. I for one do not accept these limitations. Sadly, I see business income potential walk away. But I hold true to my roots, I believe in Social Work, therefore I am “Social Work!” I will not ask another discipline to supervise me. I would ask another seasoned and well practiced Social Worker to do the cause if required.

The ADHD Screening tool for Adults is one great way to assess your client’s potential for ADHD! If you ever needed a handy tool, that scored itself and was based on the essential criteria outlined by the DSM 5; then PSYCH CENTRAL is the place for you! Its creator John Grohol, Psy.D., appears to have produced many of these screening tools, and the best part of this – ITS ALL FREE!
