Avoid Cross Contamination
During an active herpes episode, whether primary or recurrent, it is important
to follow a few simple steps to avoid spreading the infection to other areas of
the body or to other people. Herpes is easily spread by simple skin contact.
Tips:
•
Keep the infected area clean and dry to prevent secondary infection
from developing.
•
Try to avoid touching the sores; wash your hands with soap and water
after contact with the sores. Carrying an Antibacterial hand cleanse solution is
also advised.
•
Avoid sexual contact from the time symptoms are first recognized until
the sores are completely healed, that is, until scabs have fallen off and new
skin has formed over the site of the lesion.
Even while using a barrier such as a condom, you still run the risk of either
spreading the infection to another area of your body of passing herpes to your
partner.
