Tom Ford is known for his provocative adverts that he has done for YSL and his own brand Tom Ford. This explicit image received 984 complaints in the year 2000, and the ad found a spot on the ASA’s ‘Top most complained about ads’ list. Of course the ad is sexually suggestive however the majority of society were quite positive towards the advert, even though some weren't that happy about it. The adverts were only allowed to be shown in women magazines and was banned from the billboards. This isn't the first time YSL have been accused of provocative advertising, the first ever ad to show full frontal male nudity comes from YSL, again supported by Tom Ford. The image released in 2002, shows martial arts champion, Samuel de Cubber seductively laying on the floor naked. It recieved 730 complaints and was cropped for magazines
Can advertisements be too provocative? YSL Opium fragrance certainly can. The image in the bottom left corner shows model, Sophie Dahl wearing only heels and a necklace and nothing else! She’s laying there stark naked! The advert was devised by at the time the creative director of YSL, Tom Ford.
