SOLUTIONS TO THE ISSUES WITH THE GARMENT
During our lessons we had been learning about fashion production and the supply chain. In groups we were asked to choose a product which was faulty and therefore not making it to the shop floor. We had to identify these faults and make suggestions in which how the garment could be improved. We filmed this and this is located on the following page.
We all chose a defect and stated how we would change the garment to prevent it happening again. The jumpsuit we studied had a faulty zip. We suggested that to prevent the zip from splitting they could have maybe used a strong zip or used an alternative such as buttons or poppers. We also thought that the zip could be positioned on the side of the leg instead of the centre back to make it easier when putting it on.
We found that the seam was ripped near the hem on the ankle. To prevent this from happening again we thought that they should maybe use a stronger or thicker thread or a different seam. If they used a more complex seam it could add more strength to the garment.
Another fault we found was that the belt loops were broken. We suggested that maybe the the belt loops could be elasticated to give more flexibility when applying a belt. We also thought that if the loops were thicker it would give more strength. When thinking about it we said that maybe the garment should come with a belt so one that is too heavy is not used.
To develop this product we said that we could covert the jumpsuit into a dress, blouse or playsuit. If we made it into a dress it would provide more structure to the garment therefore making it stronger. Less fabric would be used too which would save costs. If it was made into a blouse or a jumpsuit, once again less material would be used which would save costs which then could be used to invest in a stronger fabric or components.
An easier and more formal description of this is shown on the video the following page.
