TYPES OF RETAILERS
A retailer sells goods in small quantities directly to consumers, through various distribution channels with the goal of earning a profit. Within the buisness there are different types of retailers. Below is a brief guide to the different types.
PUBLIC PLACE RETAILER: A retaier that is accessible to the public. The retailer is not limited to one store and can include many stores or restaurants. There is a varierty of stores therefore attracting a larger audience
Examples: Duty free/Train stations/Museum shops.
SPECIALIST STORES: A retailer that
specialises in a specific product. The products they sell are limited as the products have to correspond with the retailers speciality.
Examples: Lush/Toys 'R' Us/SCHUH.
DEPARTMENT STORES: A retail store stocking many varieties of goods in different departments. This creates a large target market as it sells a range of products for all ages and it is easy shopping as the customer only has to shop in the one store for all their needs.
Examples: Debenhams/House of
Fraser/Selfrdges.
INDEPENDANT RETAILER: A Retail
Business that is privately
owned. It offers both high
risk, but also high rewards
if it is successful.
Examples: Uniqlo
MULTIPLE RETAILER: Multiple retailing is an approach of operating a retail business in which you offer products to customers through multiple retail channels such as online or catalogues.
Examples Topshop/H&M/Next.
ONLINE RETAILER: A retailer which you purchase items online as opposed to
a physical store.
Examples: Boohoo/Pretty Little
Thing/ASOS.
