EVALUATION ON MY OWN

GET THE LOOK VIDEO

When completing my ‘Get the Look’ video I looked at various trends and styles through the eras. My sketchbook helps me see variations as time progressed. I chose some of my favourite looks or similar items of clothing and made my video around what I had available. Behind each of my different eras I had music playing in the background from each of them so it made it seem more realistic and also gave of the vibe of the era. I chose to the 1950s, 1980s and 1990s/

I shot my 1950s video locally to me. I found a public space which had greenery but also was quite edgy with garages. I chose the 1950s as I liked the biker fashion. It was easy to create this look as leather is a current trend in 2016. The leather jackets used were bought from Zara and New Look showing that it is easy and affordable to achieve the 1950s biker style in 2016. When researching I found they matched these leather jackets with denim and boots. Because of my findings I completed the outfit with a pair of mom jeans from Topshop and boyfriend jeans from H&M. I improvised and used a pair of black suede timberlands to complete the look. They wouldn’t wear these back in 1950 but I chose to take a modern interpretation on it. I also made a ‘swing’ dance outfit. Dancing was very popular in the 1950s, dresses were slightly shorter and had a lot of movement. I found a blue spotted dress in my mum’s wardrobe and matched it with a cropped jacket and small block heels from Topshop. Once again, this shows that the look can easily be achieve easily through highstreets stores. I used the song Tutti Frutti and Rock around the clock to bring the video together.

When creating my 1980s look I watched the Olivia Newton-John Physical music advert and this inspired me to make an athletic themed look. I again referred to my sketchbook and looked at popular trends at the time. I used my high school gym and filmed my video in there with the Olivia Newton-John song, Physical. This once again completed the video and made it one. I to make the look I used some tights from Primark, legwarmers and sweat bands from sports direct and then a leotard from a dance shop. Instead of a leotard, you could use a body suit which has more recently became popular in 2016. I changed the look various times, I also used meshed t-shirts which was found in Primark and also, I got my model to wear heels to give it that parody effect that music video gives us to this day.

In my 1990s Get the Look I ensured to feature a lot of denim. My research showed me that demin was worn a lot and matched with bright coloured t-shirts. I used a Blur song – Song 2 – as that provided my video with an edgy and rebellious feel. I shot the scene at some garages which once again provided the edgy feel. I used a dungaree dress from Primark and matched it with tops from Urban Outfitters. I found that a lot of clothes that we wear today are 90s inspired especially within certain subcultures. Within society. The 1990s was my favourite video to film due to the ease to find the outfits and the rebellion we could show in the video.

Overall, I was pleased with how my videos turned out and I felt proud to present them to the class.
