1970's

I have chosen to speak about the 1970’s. This will be due to the fact that it interests me a great amount at the fact that there were two completely different types of fashion at exactly the same time.

The two different themes included ‘Punk’ and ‘Disco’. The contrast that they had on each other is just so fascinating to see and interesting to find out how they can both occur at exactly the same time.

I was curious to find out that in the ‘punk’ side of fashion, leather, dull colours and chunky boots were the fad of the time whereas with the ‘disco’ lovers, neon colours, leg warmers and metallic leggings were most popular at the time.

As well as this, it attracted me at how the music affected both the fashion themes to be who they were. ‘Punk’ fashion was very influenced by the Beatles who famously wore black leather jackets and played loud, fast, aggressive types of rock music that was admired by millions. This was also very similar for the ‘disco’ lovers who hugely admired stars such as Ziggy Stardust.

Personally I think that the 1970’s had a big impact on fashion now a days! This is for a numerous amount of reasons starting with the fact that the iconic ‘wrap dress’ was invented in 1974. Diane Von Furstenberg brought out the famous garment that was made using silk jersey and was able to suit every woman’s body. This dress is still available now and popular to wear as it has so many uses to it.

In addition, ‘The Flirty Dress’ had a big impact on 1970’s and has been passed on to now a days. The printed bell-sleeved Ossie Clark dress worn with knee high boots is commonly seen now a days from designers such as Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent.

In my own opinion, I feel as if the video informs the viewer quite well of a briefing about eras from the 1960’s up to the 90’s. During the video we all explain individually why we have chosen the era we have as well as the impact the era had on fashion now a day. The pictures used in our video helped people to as well as understanding what the fashion was like, also picture it in their heads.
