There are a variety of different types of locations in which a retailer can choose to bring the joy of their brand to. The main retail locations include shopping malls (usually in-town but you may unexpectedly stumble across one in the boring out-of-town), (out- of-town) retail parks and, of course, the road of convenience, warm atmosphere and baked goods; the high street.
Surprisingly, retailers aren’t able to toss their cash around and plonk a store wherever they can; they need to think strategically when choosing their store locations in order to maximise sales opportunities and so improving the brand’s profit and its overall success.
When choosing a location, you must first ask yourself; who is going to shop here? Knowing your target audience well and knowing who your shop attracts plays a huge role in maximising your sales. Demographics are key- you might not want to put a Victoria’s Secret store in a suburban area which has an elderly demographic because this won’t be your main target audience.
