Just My Type

Different types of retailers

and what they're each about

Department Stores

Department stores- the Holy Grail of 'I want everything and anything', the land of 'I don't know what I need, but they definitely have it here'. A department store stocks a variety of different products and services, split up into different sections. Homewear? Got it. Menswear? Got it. Make-up and lovely, nose-stifling fragrances? Got it.

Specialist stores

A specialist store is a retailer which only sells a specific range of merchandise, for example cosmetics, perfumes, shoes or glasses. If you know you need to swap your shapeless, old red lipstick for a fresh clean-cut one, you are more likely to find a wider range of shades ( and maybe a gorgeous gloss) in a store which specifically sells makeup such as Fabled. Other examples of specialist stores include Footlocker, Waterstones, the Disney Store and Ann Summers.

These stores tend to be fairly large and can be located in shopping malls, high streets and retail parks. Some department stores which you may have explored thoroughly on a sweaty day out shopping are John Lewis, Debenhams, House of Fraiser and, of course, the famous Selfridges.
