We met while working together at an Irish pub in
Toronto and started dating after Mark left the pub . We clicked right away , and it did not take long for us to move in together . We encouraged each other and were there for each other .
Mark popped the question when we were visiting his parents in Ireland . We were at Powerscourt House & Garden in County Wicklow . We decided to sit and have lunch in the beautiful Japanese garden under the Cherry Blossom trees . Mark got down on one knee and proposed ! I was SHOCKED to say the least . I remember the drive back to Mark ’ s parents house ( two hours ) was the longest drive of my life ! I just wanted to call our families and share the great news with them . Mark and I could not stop laughing !
We had a large wedding planned . Church , reception , vendors , everything was booked . In March , when the lock down happened , we started to get a bit nervous that we would have to postpone . There was a lot of uncertainty and we just tried to hold out to see what would happen . Around June we decided to postpone our entire wedding to 2022 . Then a few weeks later we thought we should still do something on the original date . First , we thought we would have a family dinner with just our bubble . My mom has Huntington ’ s disease , and her situation is precarious , so we wanted to have memories of our wedding with her . Once COVID-19 restrictions permitted an outdoor ceremony for 50 people we said , “ why not !” and went for it . We had a civil union held outside at my cottage which is a converted one room schoolhouse .
We just wanted everyone to have an amazing day . Since COVID-19 threw a wrench in many people ’ s plans , this was the only party people were going to , we wanted it to be a great one . When it came to the planning , we did everything together . We wanted to make sure that both of us loved everything about the day .
We loved every moment of our day ! Mark ’ s favourite was when we were taking pictures . It really took the pressure off and gave us a chance to have some down time with just the two of us ! I also really enjoyed the ceremony our justice of peace gave , and dancing at the end of the night ! •
