Offender Families meet with Parole Board representatives at GDC Family Day
Post pandemic, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has resumed meetings with family members of offenders and the State Board of Pardons and Paroles again participated.
"Family members and friends can assist with the successful re-entry of the offenders. For an offender leaving prison to be successful, they must have that support. Certainly, we are meeting with families to provide parole status updates, but also to ensure the families understand the need for the offenders to be parole ready," stated Chris Barnett, Executive Director of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.
Families of the offenders may provide the Parole Board with additional information the Board Members can consider.
GDC's Family Day was held July 15, 2022, at State Offices South in Forsyth. The event included an opening ceremony at which Executive Director Barnett spoke.
Barnett says the GDC, and the Parole Board are working closely to ensure as many successful outcomes as possible for offenders leaving prison.
“Today was an important event for each agency and the Board will continue our strong criminal justice partnership with the Department of Corrections,” Barnett said.
“The Parole Board and the GDC are working together to enhance public safety for all Georgians,” he added.
The Parole Board's clemency staff met with hundreds of family members and friends of offenders.
The Department of Corrections will include information on their website regarding their next scheduled Family Day.
