APAI Association of Paroling authorities International

Georgia Parole Board Member Joyette Holmes joined an international panel for the opening session of the conference. The panel discussion was titled, "Sharing Considerations Across the Globe."

"It was a great discussion covering many aspects of parole decision-making from the different panelists representing U.S. and international paroling agencies," said Holmes.

Of the many training opportunities provided was included the presentation delivered by the Georgia Office of Victim Services titled, "Georgia's Unique Approach to Serving Crime Victims Post-Conviction." APAI conference members were also introduced to the Georgia Parole Board's Comfort Dog Team. Handler Mandy Kimner and Asher are assigned to the Georgia Office of Victim Services.

Iowa parole staff toured the Bostick Nursing Center which provides geriatric care for parolees.

"I'm so proud of how the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles rose to the occasion. Our employees exceeded expectations being able to continue their critical public safety roles and serve as volunteers and in security positions at the conference. Likewise, those employees who weren't able to attend APAI, as they ensured our day-to-day operations and the parole decision-making process continued uninterrupted, were phenomenal. The parole leadership and staff from the U.S. and international members in Atlanta during the week caught a glimpse of the Georgia team that makes us the number one paroling authority in the nation," stated Executive Director of the Georgia Board, Chris Barnett.
