Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia General Assembly recognized Georgia law enforcement at the State Capitol in March. Joint House and Senate resolutions designated March 6, 2017 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at the State Capitol.

"Each day, law enforcement protects Georgia's citizens, families, communities and homes. Today, we show our appreciation for their service," stated Governor Deal.

Governor Deal, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, House Speaker David Ralston and leaders in the General Assembly attended a ceremony at the Capitol.

Many of Parole's sworn officers and senior management including Executive Director of Parole Chris Barnett attended. The Board employs approximately 55 sworn officers.

"The State Board of Pardons and Paroles stands with all Georgia law enforcement to keep Georgians safe!" said Barnett.

House Resolution 492, recognizes March 6th as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at the Capitol. The resolution commends the nearly 54,000 certified peace officers in the state of Georgia who risk their lives every day in the line of duty to keep you and your family safe.

Senate Resolution 295 also recognized March 6th as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

In Georgia, 699 officers have been killed in the line of duty, and nine of those officers were lost last year.

Officers in Georgia who were killed this past year were recognized and remembered with a moment of silence during the ceremony at the Capitol.
