Parole Board Chairman Terry Barnard stated, "Our clemency decisions are data-driven. The Georgia Parole Board takes into account, in each decision, the public's interest and the likelihood of a safe successful transition of the offender back into the community. This objective is accomplished through the many scientific tools that we use designed for such purposes."
Executive Director of the Parole Board Chris Barnett thanked the association for making their new facility available.
“The Georgia Sheriffs' Association is a public safety partner of the Georgia Parole Board and they are a stakeholder in the parole process as they represent public safety for all Georgia communities. Today was another unique opportunity to engage a criminal justice partner as well as discuss like-issues and programs with the Board, DCS, ARS and the Center for Effective Public Policy," stated Barnett.
The Parole Board's Clemency Division is engaging, enhancing and encouraging participation in the parole process.
Senior Hearing Examiner Jacques Brown led and provided an informational training session at the DeKalb County District Attorney's office in Decatur. An overview of Georgia's parole consideration process and duties of the five Board Members were discussed with the attorneys in attendance.
After the presentation, a Q&A session with the attorneys took place where division leadership answered questions regarding the parole process in Georgia.
Richard Stroker, Director and senior associate of the Center for Effective Public Policy, stated, “The Georgia Parole Board is the preeminent board in the nation.”
