Parole Graduates Two from APPA Leadership Institute

Spring 2023

At the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) 2023 Winter Regional Training Institute in Los Angeles, California, two State Board of Pardons and Paroles Clemency investigators graduated from the APPA Leadership Institute.

Chief Criminal Investigator Iris Shepard and Chief Institutional Parole Investigator Craig Flint both completed the 12-month professional development program. Georgia Parole Board Vice Chair Jacqueline Bunn and Clemency Division leadership attended the training conference for training and to support our graduates.

The Georgia Parole Board's Clemency leadership attended the APPA Winter Regional Training in New Orleans earlier this year. Clemency Division Director Crystal Moon, Deputy Directors Lisa Copeland, and Kim Patton-Johnson presented a workshop on "Pardons in the 21st Century," where they spoke about how Georgia's pardons process is reviewed and continuously being modernized and enhanced. The presentation was also delivered in Kansas City last month. (See opposite page)

In New Orleans, Director Moon was on a panel titled, "The Impact of Technology in Community Corrections Outcomes." Panelists discussed the challenges that impact the efficiency of corrections staff and the types of technology that can be implemented to manage the day-to-day workload.
