Robert S. Markley is the newest Georgia Parole Board Member as of January 2025.
Governor Brian Kemp appointed Markley to replace Terry Barnard, whose term ended December 31, 2024.
Markley retired as Morgan County's sheriff after twenty- four years. He began as a jailer and served as an officer and detective prior to being elected sheriff.
Markley joined the board at the January meeting.
"I am humbled at the opportunity to serve the citizens of Georgia as a member of the parole board. Providing public safety has always driven me as a law enforcement officer. I will bring that same dedication to making important executive clemency decisions regarding eligible individuals,” stated Markley.
Markley had meetings with staff and the Board Members to prepare for the seven-year term that will end December 31, 2031.
Board Members are appointed to seven-year staggered terms by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate.
