The State Board of Pardons and Paroles has begun the process of revalidating and updating the Parole Decision Guidelines Rating System. Application of the guidelines to parole eligible cases results in equitable decisions by the Parole Board.
Parole leadership is actively engaging stakeholders in the process to ensure the Parole Decision Guidelines Rating System reflects best practices in scientific, data driven decision making.
Among the many groups being engaged are the state's district attorneys and judges.
"The guidelines produce the clemency recommendation to the board in months to be served by the offender in each case. The revalidation process results in a guidelines system that reflects current community views regarding crimes, sentence length and a parole recommendation that is appropriate in order to protect the public," says Chris Barnett, Executive Director of the Parole Board.
"We will engage our stakeholders throughout this process in order to maintain our status as the nation's most effective and efficient executive clemency authority," Barnett says.
The Board revalidates and updates the guidelines every five (5) years. Learn more about the guidelines and the parole process at pap.georgia.gov.
