Ward rose through the ranks of the GDC.
He was appointed Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Corrections in 2019 by Governor Kemp.
Ward began his career at the Department of Corrections in 1992 as a correctional officer, rising to chief of staff in 2016.
Governor Brian Kemp has appointed Timothy Ward to the Parole Board. Ward served as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) from 2019 until December 31, 2022. The appointment is made as another former Corrections Commissioner, Brian Owens, retired from state service. Owens served as a Parole Board
Member from 2015 until his Board term expired on December 31, 2022.
Governor Kemp says Ward's experience will serve Georgians as he transitions to the Parole Board.
"I'm also thankful for the decades of service that Tim Ward has given to the people of Georgia in our corrections system. Over those many years, he has seen all aspects of our prisons and the people impacted by them, most of whom will eventually return to society. That makes him uniquely qualified for the Board of Pardons and Paroles, and I am glad he will continue his public service in this capacity," Kemp stated in a press release.
