Parole Board employees volunteer to assist communities in times of need throughout the year. Such was the case when Hurricane Florence struck. "Convoy of Care" brought together state and local agencies,

companies, nonprofits and WSB-TV in Atlanta to collect supplies for delivery to residents harmed by the hurricane. The convoys mobilize at "Caring for Others" in Atlanta.

In September, the State Board of Pardons and Paroles partnered with the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, the Georgia Sheriffs' Association, NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives), Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia State Patrol and other state and local law enforcement agencies along with WSB-TV, the nonprofit Caring for Others, Georgia Motor Trucking Association and Atlanta Peach Movers to sponsor the Convoy of Care.

Parole staff joined volunteers from the other partners to donate, collect and load supplies into the trucks for the trip.

The State Board of Pardons and Paroles again participated in the "Respect in Recovery 5K Walk/Run" at Grant Park in Atlanta on October 12, 2018.

The Respect in Recovery 5K Walk/Run is a partnership event where state agencies and organizations collaborate to end stigma, promote mental health, highlight Georgia’s successful reentry programs, and celebrate the successes of those in recovery.

Parole Board Member David Herring and Executive Director of Parole Chris Barnett led parole's charges.

"This is a wonderful event to bring attention to the need for services but also to show how much is being accomplished through this collaboration," stated Herring.

"I'm proud to take part and finish and extremely proud of our employees who volunteered their time to raise awareness and stay fit!"
