express your support of this important investment in UW-Platteville. We greatly appreciate your support of this critically needed project.
As part of our commitment to meet the needs of students and employers of our graduates, we’ ve spent a lot of time this year visiting, listening, and learning. Since January of this year, we’ ve traveled near and far to visit Alliant Energy, Ashley, Kohls, Kohler, John Deere, Kimberly-Clark, MSA, Ruekert and Mielke, Strand Associates, Esterline Avista, and Baxter International. Listening to our industry partners and learning about their needs will strengthen the special relationship that UW-Platteville has always had with Tri-State area employers, and we look forward to many more of these visits and deeper connections.
Finally, we turn our attention to the path ahead. As part of the college-wide visioning process, a College of EMS team has drafted vision and mission statements, as well as identified key thematic areas and goals, to guide our development.
The draft vision statement reads as follows: UW-Platteville will be the institution of choice in Wisconsin and the Tri-State region for students seeking careers in engineering, mathematics, and science and for employers seeking graduates in these areas of study.
The draft mission statement reads: The mission of the College of EMS is to provide an accessible, hands-on and affordable education for engineering, science, and mathematics students that will provide them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to contribute to the societal well-being and economic development of the state of Wisconsin, the Tri- State region, the nation, and the world.
As we have been engaging in departmental conversations about these statements and how best to achieve alignment with the university’ s strategic plan, I invite everyone to consider the impact our institution has on the region, the community, and the lives of all the students who come here to study engineering, math, and science. UW-Platteville is truly a special place. I am thankful to be part of this community.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season,
Molly Gribb, PhD, PE Fellow, ASCE Dean, College of EMS
