EDUCATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
- an innovation mindset
The increased levels of collaboration between industry and academia have delivered significant value to
the Irish economy.
F
or Prof Anita Maguire, Vice
President for Research and
Innovation at University
College Cork (UCC), this
success story began over 15 years
ago when Ireland started to invest
significantly in research.
“The first decade of this
investment was focused on recruiting
talent and building up world-class
research excellence in key areas. In
the past five years, there has been a
significant shift in focus to ensure that
continued investment in this space
delivers both economic and societal
impact,” she says.
“Researchers across the
disciplinary spectrum have had
unprecedented opportunity to
develop research collaborations
with enterprise partners over
recent years and, in UCC, the
concept of researchers working in
close partnerships with industry is
particularly well embedded.”
