When the storms finally cleared, the counties worked quickly to repair the roads, but the costs of those repairs took a big and unexpected bite out of the counties' budgets. Greene County alone spent nearly $90k on road repairs out of county funds, which was money that was not originally budgeted.

"“For us, a small county with a small budget, spending $90,000 that was not budgeted was tough," said Lombard.

Thanks to GEMA/HS and FEMA, Greene, Wilkes and Union counties, and several others, qualified to receive public assistance.

"Public assistance was able to reimburse half of that, which helped our roads department,” said Lombard.

It's estimated Greene County will receive nearly $80,000, Union County and Wilkes County approximately $60,000 and $500,000 respectively in state and federal assistance.
