“All the while, I kept praying to God to bring someone to help get her grave like it was before,” Jones said.
FEMA staff asked if she received a bid for the cost of rebuilding her mother’s grave. Jones already received an estimate from a funeral home director for the cost of a new casket, vault and dress for her mother. After giving FEMA this information and documentation from the church’s pastor of the damages to the church and the burial site as a result of the storms, she was assigned her own personal representative to handle her case.
“The young lady from FEMA stayed in contact with me throughout the entire process and until everything was completed,” Jones said. “She did a beautiful job helping me and walking me step-by-step through the process. Without her, I don’t know what I would’ve done.”
Jones received her check from FEMA on March 6, just two days after she received her approval letter.
“I think the whole application process, from beginning to end, was successful. I didn’t run into any problems, and everyone I met and talked to was nice. They understood I needed help and they tried everything in their power to do so,” she said.
Jones hopes her story can encourage those who haven’t applied for assistance to do so. FEMA will forever hold a special place in her heart as both a blessing and an answer to her prayers.
