RAİN ENERGY
Today, non-renewable resources such as coal, natural gas and oil are used frequently and
these resources are rapidly depleted. Therefore, the use of alternative energy sources began to
increase. In our country, most houses have solar panels on the roof. The panel draws heat
from the sun and heats the water. But these panels are affected by the weather; like rain. A
group of researchers at Soochow University in China found a solution to this problem. They
developed solar panels that can generate electricity with raindrops. “The solar cell has
become one of the most common solutions to
environmental and energy crisis problems, Zh said Zhen
Wen, an assistant professor at the Institute of Functional
Nano and Soft Materials in Soochow. However, energy
production from solar cells is affected by various weather
conditions - such as rainy weather. The intermittent and
unpredictable nature of solar energy is an inevitable
challenge for its expansion as a reliable power supply
system. It has become necessary to collect alternative
energy from the environment with different energy systems and to compensate for the missing
part. "
What are Hybrid Solar Panels?
Hybrid solar panels, also called all weather
resistant solar panels, generate electricity from
the sun and rain. These panels are installed in
suitable places. It starts to generate electricity
from the energy of the rain. It includes a
triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) which
converts mechanical energy into electricity. What
is the working principle?
A standard solar panel has sun-absorbing cells. These cells are coated with graphene (a two-
dimensional material of carbon atoms). The electrons in graphene interact with positively
charged ions in rainwater to form a double layer and obtain energy.
These new cells provide a microvolt voltage while converting the energy from sunlight into
electricity with an efficiency of 6.53%. Standard solar panels generate electricity between 15-
20%. These panels have low efficiency compared to standard panels. Moreover, graphene is
an expensive material. The advantage of these panels is that they can be used in any region.
Efforts to reduce the cost of these cells and increase the efficiency are continuing rapidly.
