GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
The word geothermal; The term terim geo “means“ place ki in English and “thermal” means
“heat İngilizce. Geothermal energy is the heat transported to the surface by means of hot
water and steam (fluid) under pressure, which can contain more dissolved minerals, various
salts and gases than the normal ground and can be defined as. Geothermal energy is usually
obtained from the surface water using the weak zones formed by cracks and fractures
reaching from the ground up to the surface of the earth or from specially drilled boreholes.
Fluid overheated by the heat source contains more molten minerals, various salts and gases
than normal ground and surface waters. Geothermal energy is the most important alternative
energy source for fossil fuels. One of the most important elements of geothermal energy
systems is “geothermal fluid”. Heat in the ground heats fluids (liquids and gases) trapped or
circulated in rocks by different transmission paths (convective, conductive, etc.). All of these
heated liquids or gases are called geothermal fluids. Geothermal energy is a renewable,
sustainable, inexhaustible, inexpensive, reliable, environmentally friendly and domestic
energy source.
Geothermal resources have three important
components:
1. Heat source; geothermal energy.
2. Fluid that transports heat from the ground to the
surface; In the geothermal energy system, the
geothermal heat source that takes over the energy
from the turbine is the fluid that provides the work.3.
Rock permeability sufficient to ensure water circulation; the region should be suitable for
drilling in order to reach the heat source.
