DREAMS TOGETHER

Elizabeth Price
i just want to be something like yours twisted up into finger fits, different melodies that somehow fit together like chalky puzzle pieces in a primary color’ s dream. I don’ t quite know exactly where i’ m going yet.
I hope this doesn’ t pose a threat to your rather large ambitions, Not to say that mine aren’ t large. Sometimes they even swallow yours for breakfast, drowning its edges in milky superstition Let’ s have our dreams fit together into something of substance. We’ ll walk down the street fingers fit to be tied and you’ ll tell me about your day, spent bending fires with your breath, with supple heat that flows from your fingertips and I’ ll tell you about the poetry you know quite well and love

the poetry that you fell in love with in the first place, wearing it on my lapel like a big diamond brooch, dotted and laced with emeralds that smack of the first time, the last time,
and every time in between.
