Brick Bodies Fitness Services, Museum Team Up for Fitness Challenge
Brick Bodies Fitness Services Inc.’ s Planet Fitness ® location in
Hagerstown, Maryland, teamed up with the Doleman Black Heritage Museum and XL Sports Magazine over the summer to raise funds during the Mitchell Branch Fitness Challenge.
The challenge received a lot of positive feedback, and the Hagerstown PF ® is participating in another three-month competition that began in November.
Participants in the challenge, which ran from June through September, were encouraged to gain sponsors who would: give $ 1 for every mile walked, jogged or biked in increments of five miles up to 25 miles; give $ 1 for every pound or inch closer to the participant’ s goal; or give $ 5 when participants achieved a new endurance level through a class or personal training.
“ Our relationship with the Doleman Black Heritage Foundation began back in May when I was contacted by Alesia Parsons- McBean regarding the Mitchell Branch Fitness Challenge,” said
GM Brian Hoffman.“ Alesia was not a member at that time, but her sister, Cynthia, is a member who uses our gym almost daily and is a huge PF fan.”
Planet Fitness agreed to waive start-up fees and cancellation fees for anyone wanting to participate in the challenge who was not already a PF member. Members of other local gyms were encouraged to participate as well.
Four people, who were either volunteers or friends of the museum, participated and raised over $ 500. Parsons-McBean hopes to get the word out for future challenges and have a greater number of participants.
Competitors were required to submit proof of exercise, and team members at Planet Fitness gladly filled out the corresponding forms. The challenge rules also permitted participants to submit logs and screenshots from fitness trackers such as Fitbit to count toward their goal.
A local publication, XL Sports Magazine, featured the competition in its June issue and ran updates in following issues. The challenge received a lot of positive feedback, and the Hagerstown PF is participating in another three-month competition that began in November. The partnership also hopes to host two more fitness challenges in 2017 and make the competition an annual event. G member news
