The Georgia Corrections Academy , Basic Correctional Officer Training ( BCOT ) is a five-week mandated training course for Correctional Officers required by Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training ( POST ). All Correctional Officers must complete 40 hours of firearms training , ten practical exams and seven written tests to become Peace Officer certified . BCOT assists Correctional Officers in better preparing themselves to perform and accomplish the mission of protecting the public while operating safe and secure facilities . Since August 2022 , more than 400 cadets have graduated from classes T-127 , 128 , 129 and 130 through the Georgia Corrections Academy BCOT program .
