Sociology – AQA – AS 1191 Sociology – AQA – A2 2191 Course Outline Sociology helps you to think for yourself. It will help you to develop knowledge and a critical understanding of individuals and their identities, roles and responsibilities within contemporary society. Employment opportunities where your sociological skills will be particularly valued are journalism and the media, law, human resources, business management, nursing and health care, teaching, guidance, criminal and probation services. (30% of total A Level) Assessment Criteria The specification followed is the one offered by AQA. The course at all levels is assessed entirely by an examination. The AS Level is studied over the first year and successful completion of this course with a minimum of a D Grade will be required for entry into the A2 Level course followed in the second year. Course requirements and progression To follow the Sociology course you would be expected to meet the general requirements for AS Level courses. In addition, because the subject requires higher level writing skills a Grade B or higher at (I)GCSE English Language are normally required. Especially worthwhile combinations with AS Sociology are English, Geography, Economics, Business Studies, Biology or other Social Sciences.
