Geography – Edexcel – AS 8GE01 Geography – Edexcel – A2 9GE01 Course Outline This course will appeal to you if: • You are curious about the world’s places, people and environments. • You are interested in local, regional and global issues. • You wish to explore human, physical and environmental geographical relationships. Geography allows you to see why and how it is changing. It can enhance communication skills, literacy and numeracy, ICT literacy, spatial awareness, team working, problem solving and environmental awareness. There will be opportunities to undertake fieldwork and research when investigating the topics chosen. Fieldwork sites may be local, regional and or international and may involve additional cost. Course Details AS - Geography A2 - Geography Unit 1: Unit 3: Global Challenges Contested Planet A written paper of 1½ hours duration with A written paper of 2½ hours duration. (60% AS, 30% A2 Level) (30% of total A Level) Unit 2: Geographical Investigations A written paper of 1 hour duration consisting of two questions based on data response, investigation and evaluation skills. (40% AS, 20% A2 Level) Unit 4: Geographical Research A written paper of 1½ hours duration. There will be one question based on a research option topic. (20% of total A Level) Assessment Criteria The specification followed is the one offered by Edexcel. entirely by a final examination. In addition, because the subject requires higher level writing skills, a Grade B or higher at (I)GCSE Geography & English Language is required.
