Art and Design – Edexcel – AS 8AD01 Art and Design – Edexcel – A2 9AD01 Course Outline The GCE in Art and Design has been designed to encourage an adventurous and enquiring approach to Art and Design. Students are expected to demonstrate an understanding of past and contemporary art and design practice and be able to produce art work that embraces a range of ideas. Course Details AS - Art & Design Unit 1: Art & Design Practical coursework (60% of AS, 30% of A2 Level) A2 - Art & Design Unit 3: Art & Design Practical Course work and Personal study (30% of total A Level) UNIT 2: Art & Design Externally set assignment (40% of AS, 20% of A2 Level) UNIT 4: Art & Design Externally assessed assignment (20% of total A Level) Assessment Criteria The specification followed is the one offered by Edexcel. • Unit 1 - Internally set, internally marked, and externally moderated. • Unit 2 - Externally set, internally marked, and externally moderated. • Unit 3 - Internally set, internally marked and externally moderated. • Unit 4 - Externally set, internally marked, and externally moderated. Course requirements and progression It is not a prerequisite that a student wishing to study A Level Art must have completed GCSE Art and Design; however the student will be expected to produce evidence of ability in drawing and interest in the subject before being accepted onto the course. Entry onto the course will require a B Grade at GCSE or evidence of a high quality portfolio of Art. A qualification in Art & Design A Level can be used in many career paths, some of which you may not have considered; Architect, Art Historian, Publisher, Gallery Manager, Writer/critic, Game Designer, Stop Motion Animator, Interface Designer, Advertiser, Web Designer, Furniture Designer, Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Interior Designer, Printmaker, Product Designer, Fashion Designer, Video/film/photographer, Sculptor, Teacher, Lecturer and many more besides.
