The cold and snowy Siberia in Russia is the natural habitat of most of the Amur tigers. Their
population is approximately 360 in the wild, according to the IUCN( International Union of the Conservation of Nature). The main reason of their depletion is due to hunting and loss of habitat. In addition, poaching threatens the last of our wild tigers that number around 3,890.
Loggerhead turtles usually live
in the waters of the Atlantic, Mediterranean or the Black sea. They were initially poached for their shells and meat. Presently, the threats have increased: people visiting the seaside harm the eggs or they are sometimes stuck in fishing nets and end up drowning.
The Bornean elephant is a
subspecies of the Asian elephant. They are mostly found in Malaysia & Indonesia. There are an estimated 1000- 1600 individuals remaining in the world. Due to demand for palm oil, forests are being cleared and this turns out to be a problem for the Bornean elephants. Also, illegal hunting for their valuable ivory is a major threat.
The giant panda is
admired around the world for its adorable features. There are fewer than 2000 individuals across the world. The significant threat to the lives of giant pandas is habitat loss. Fragmentation of forests, for the collection of timber or for industrial purposes, also remains another main reason.
