Recent innovations in the securities finance space are truly set to transform the sector , with those who have spent decades working in the segment optimistic about an evolving market structure . To drive that forward , service providers are taking a collaborative approach to the technology with interoperability at the heart , which will underpin the market of the future .
Highlighting the final remarks of Global Custodian ’ s roundtable on the future of securities finance may seem like a peculiar place to start an article summarising said discussion , but seldom does optimism in financial services shine through like it did at the conclusion of this conversation . “ I ' ve spent most of my career thinking about wild ideas on how to fix things , and as you run the rule across them you just hit limitation after limitation . But I think we ' re at a place now where you ' re able to solve some of these issues and the technology exists to be able to do it ,” said
Paul Chiappetta , product management and business development , Broadridge . “ Thinking about what comes next , whether it ' s just better and faster , simpler ways to do things with traditional assets on the distributed ledger , or starting to tokenise , whether it ' s for repo or any secured funding transaction and being able to do that in a fail-less environment , I think all those things are just outstanding ,” A bullish Chiappetta was in good company on the session , joined by a group of seasoned experts within the securities finance space with decades of experience . Ken DeGiglio , CIO at EquiLend has been with the firm for seven years as part of a career which began in 1987 , stated : “ I ’ ll also echo the excitement part . I don ' t think I ' ve ever been more optimistic about the way forward than where we are right now . We talked about how quickly the tech landscape ' s changing but if you look at the evolving market structure , it ' s going to force us and all of our participants to drive innovation and scaling . “ If you look at just DLT and AI and what ' s happened in that space , for both of those things have moved to the right on a hype-cycle curve way faster than any of us would have predicted even a year or two ago .
