The Friday , October 14 program , showcasing internationally acclaimed pianist Javier Perianes and Kansas City Symphony concertmaster Jun Iwasaki , will feature Ibert ’ s Divertissement , Mozart ’ s Piano Concerto No . 23 , Vaughan Williams ’ The Lark Ascending , and Ravel ’ s Piano Concerto in G Major .
The closing Saturday , October 15 program will feature Vaughan Williams ’ Fantasia on Greensleeves , Mozart ’ s Violin Concerto No . 5 , and Dvořák ’ s Slavonic Dances . Alex Kerr ( Dallas Symphony , Concertmaster ) will be the evening ’ s soloist . the value of the new Center in our future . We look forward to growing our relationship with them .”
The Opening Night , Wednesday , October 12 program will feature Bach ’ s Oboe and Violin Concerto , Mozart ’ s Adagio and Fugue , Vaughan Williams ’ Tallis Fantasia ( featuring select members of the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra ), Handel ’ s Music for the Royal Fireworks , and Mendelssohn ’ s Midsummer Night ’ s Dream Overture . Nathan Olson ( Dallas Symphony , Co-Concertmaster ) and Erin Hannigan ( Dallas Symphony , Principal Oboe ) will be the evening ’ s soloists .
The closing night will serve as a celebration of “ genius in the spirit of Mozart ,” this year honoring Susan Tousi , Chief Commercial Officer of Ilumina . The October 15 Mainly Mozart Genius Night celebration - which includes pre-concert dinner and a post-concert party with festival musicians - is sponsored by UC San Diego and co-chaired by technology leaders Steve Hart and Martha Dennis . This year ’ s award will be presented by UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep Khosla . Past honorees include Irwin Jacobs , Andrew Viterbi , Walter Munk , Elizabeth Blackburn , and Pradeep Khosla .
Mainly Mozart is also a regional leader in chamber music concerts , international commissions , programs that explore the music-brain connection , and boasts a 275 + student-youth orchestra .
