Now , celebrating its silver anniversary , World of Children is becoming the first ever global community foundation focused on the needs of children . The vision fills a gap , serving as a resource for philanthropists who wish to support organizations dedicated to children but may not have the bandwidth to search and verify on a global scale , a process that World of Children has perfected and now makes available to all . World of Children will discover these Changemakers , match them with donor interests and guarantee impact .
During this pivotal transition , Board of Governor Molly Eldredge volunteered to lead the transition and attracted 30-year non-profit veteran Shawn McQueen- Ruggeiro to serve as President . World of Children ’ s new business model not only required internal leadership , but it required a philanthropic leader . One of San Diego ’ s most successful business leaders answered that call . Papa Doug Manchester , Molly ’ s father , had admired his daughter ’ s dedication and conviction to World of Children and was inspired by the idea of a global community foundation . Manchester pledged the lead gift , a onemillion-dollar commitment to World of Children .
And for the Manchester family , this gift was personal . The Sally Manchester Ricchiuti Protection Award has been reserved to honor Molly ’ s sister who was lost tragically in 2020 . The gift will serve to support Changemaking organizations dedicated to protecting and shining a light on the most vulnerable children worldwide , something the entire Manchester and Ricchiuti families say would have delighted Sally .
World of Children has kicked off its campaign to build an endowment for vulnerable children and believe the generosity and visionary spirit of our local community will support this vision for a global community foundation and once again prove to the world San Diego has earned its reputation as America ’ s Finest City .
