San Diego Latino Film Festival RETURNS TO IN-PERSON SCREENINGS IN NEW VENUE

It is time once again to shine a spotlight on the best of the local cinematic arts as the San Diego Latino Film Festival gears up for its 29th edition . Even better , this year the 11-day event is returning to in-person screenings for the first time since the pandemic forced organizers to move to virtual and drive-in formats . The San Diego Film Festival has also found a new home at the AMC Theaters in Mission Valley .

This year ’ s festival will feature more than 160 Feature and Short Length films from the US , Mexico , Central America and South America . While in-person screenings are making their come-back , some of the films will still be available virtually . The event will also hold Question and Answer opportunities with filmmakers and special guests . There will also be various showcases throughout the festival including ¡ SOMOS ! Cine LGBTQ + and ¡ Viva Mujeres !
Amid the range of films being featured , there are two highly anticipated premieres . The first being the Mexican film , Poderoso Victoria . Directed by Raúl Ramón , the piece tells the story of a young mechanic who ’ s facing a tough decision after his town is cut off from civilization when its mine and railroad route are shut down .
The second high profile film premiering at the San Diego Film Festival is La Caja . In Golden Lion Winner Lorenzo Vigas ’ latest , a young teenager travels to Northern Mexico to collect the remains of his father . However , a chance encounter with a mysterious stranger leads him down an unexpected path that tests the limits of loyalty .
The 29th San Diego Latino Film Festival runs from March 10 - 20 , kicking off with an opening night press conference and party , and wrapping up with Sabor Latino : Food , Beer , and Wine Festival , and an awards announcement .
