Joan and Irwin Jacobs like a good challenge , and they think Salk supporters do , too .
Joan and Irwin Jacobs , longtime supporters of the Salk Institute , have pledged $ 100 million to build the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Science and Technology Center , launching Salk ’ s five-year , $ 500 million philanthropic and scientific Campaign for the Future .
The Jacobs ’ will contribute $ 1 for every $ 2 donated — up to $ 100 million — for gifts or pledges made towards the capital construction between now and June 30 , 2022 . The goal we must meet to construct the building is $ 300 million .
