The Salk Institute ’ s Campaign for the Future : Building a More Resilient World is a bold , five-year , $ 500 million scientific and philanthropic effort to attract the people and acquire the technology and space necessary to expand and accelerate critical research .
At the center of this audacious goal is the plan to build the 100,000-square-foot Joan and Irwin Jacobs Science and Technology Center .
Why Now ? Scientific research is now at an inflection point , driven by advances in technology and computational science . For the Institute , these advances have opened thrilling new avenues of discovery . To seize this opportunity , Salk must make a significant investment in people , technology and space .
People The Campaign will raise funds to recruit and retain talented faculty and staff in diverse disciplines .
Technology The new Jacobs Center will improve collaboration between biologists , engineers and computational experts , better enabling them to develop the tools and latest technologies needed to keep Salk ’ s research ahead of the curve .
Join Us Joan and Irwin Jacobs , longtime supporters of the Salk Institute , will contribute $ 1 for every $ 2 donated — up to $ 100 million , which would translate to a total of $ 300 million with matching funds — for gifts or pledges made to the campaign between now and September 30 , 2022 .
